WSU BN Online Pre-Clinical Requirements for Placements

Students enrolled in programs that have a clinical placement component must meet all pre-clinical/pre-placement requirements set by the University. This ensures compliance with State/Territory legislation and Health Care Facility requirements.

Clinical Placement?

Clinical Placement hours are an assessable and essential part of your undergraduate Nursing course. Attendance at Clinical placement is compulsory in all Professional Practice Experience Units (PPE) across all years of your course.

You must attend and be assessed as satisfactory in a minimum of 800 hours (This does not include public holidays) across your course to meet the AHPRA requirements and course completion rules.

The 800 hours is comprised of the following hours per PPE unit per year:

  • 401004  PPE2 - 80 hours
  • 401008  PPE3 - 160 hours
  • 401012  PPE4 - 160 hours
  • 401016  PPE5 - 160 hours
  • 401020  PPE6 - 240 hours

All hours required by each unit must be completed (All missed hours will require make up arranged by the CPT) Each PPE Unit must be passed before progression to the next PPE unit. Clinical placement will be allocated to you by the clinical placement team and you will be informed by our student placement system- InPlace by email. InPlace Student Placement System?

School of Nursing & Midwifery utilises a software system call InPlace to manage all clinical placements across our courses.  InPlace is your student placement system which gives you instant access to your allocated placements anywhere, anytime on any device.

You can also view:

  • Placement verification information, which is updated weekly from
  • ClinConnect. - Your expiry dates related to your National Police Check so you can update when required.
  • Placement facility details and details about, what to do before you go, where to meet on day 1 and a lot more.
  • Your overall hours per placement, your clinical bank & your make up hours.
  • Details of all of your clinical placements across the course for your portfolio and future job applications.

The InPlace placement system gives you more control and better supports you with your placement allocations. Students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Academy were the first to have access to InPlace. InPlace is currently being rolled out to the rest of Western Sydney University schools.
