Their nursing careers beginning in Lithgow

THE Western Sydney University held a special presentation and morning tea at their Lithgow campus on Wednesday to thank Lithgow Mobility Aids for their help in donating a mechanical lifting device to the faculty's School of Nursing.

The device was put to great effect by the nine nursing students throughout the year who also completed their first year of study on the same day.

Maree Van Harskamp attended the presentation and accepted the award on behalf of Lithgow Mobility Aids.

Director of Academic Programs Dr Steve McNally presented Mrs Van Harskamp with a special award in recognition of their kind donation and thanked her on behalf of the students and faculty.

With a year of training under their belts, the nursing students will now take the skills they have learned and apply them towards the second year of their Bachelor of Nursing program at various other campuses in NSW.

Session Academic at the School of Nursing Christine Haley remarked on the progress of the students and the unique learning environment at the Lithgow campus.

"Our smaller class numbers mean that the students develop strong bonds with each other," she said.

"These students have travelled here from a variety of places but they have all enjoyed their experience in Lithgow."

The Lithgow campus of UWS in the former Hoskins Institute has installed first class facilities for its nursing course.
