Bachelor of Health Science (Health & Physical Education)
Leaving high school I was very excited to begin a new chapter in my life, pursuing a degree in Health and Physical Education (HPE).
For me, making this choice was simple as I had always envisioned myself working in the health and fitness industry. Once I complete my degree, I intend to do a Masters degree in Secondary Education.
What I love about my program is that the learning is stimulating and practical. I also enjoy working with other positive, young people who are as equally interested in HPE as I am. Studying alongside keen individuals has developed my interest in a wide variety of sports and encouraged me to go for opportunities that I would have never considered just a few years ago.
The terrific group of Health Science staff in HPE makes it possible to do more than just achieve good grades. The degree provides practical experiences within the community to help develop your teaching skills and knowledge of the industry. One opportunity in particular that I have found incredibly valuable is working as a research assistant for two university academics. Not only were these experiences educational and insightful, they have made me consider pursuing further education beyond a Masters Degree towards a PhD.
Some of the studies that I assisted on include investigating how HPE students use digital technologies to learn about their general wellbeing, a review of health promotion initiatives in professional sporting clubs, and how university assessments can best engage other HPE students. Each project has provided me with research experience that I know I will utilise in my career in education. I would recommend this program to anyone who has an interest in developing a greater understanding of health and physical activity. If you enjoy being challenged, both physically and intellectually HPE could be the program for you.
