I&T, Languages and Linguistics Relocation 2018

Classes and tutorials in the Interpreting and Translation courses are proposed to be relocated from Bankstown Campus to Parramatta City (1PSQ) and Parramatta South campuses for 2018. A small number of language units (Arabic and Indonesian) and some Linguistics units will also be duplicated at Parramatta South.

The School of Humanities and Communication Arts aims to draw on the greater attractiveness and convenience of the Parramatta campuses for both domestic and international students.

The programs proposed for relocation include:

  • B Arts (Interpreting and Translation)
  • GC Interpreting and Translation
  • GD Interpreting
  • GD Translation
  • M Arts Translation and Interpreting Studies
  • M Interpreting and Translation

When will the move take effect?

Staff space and specific timeframes for re-location will be made available to staff as soon as it is finalised. It is anticipated that all staff will be in their new accommodations by mid-February 2018. The University recognises that the relocation will result in additional travel time for some staff, while reducing travel times for others. School management will work with staff to the extent possible and in consideration of the flexible working arrangements as outlined in the respective Enterprise Agreements.

Will the same level of facilities be offered?

An education brief detailing the facilities required in relocating the programs is now under consideration with Capital Works and Facilities (CW&F) to ascertain how best to ensure that these facilities are able to be provided at Parramatta South. CW&F have advised that the refurbished teaching facilities will be available from mid-February 2018.

Will there be any staffing changes as a result of the proposed move?

It is proposed that the majority of the academic staff supporting programs in interpreting and translation, languages, and linguistics and TESOL will relocate to Parramatta South campus in conjunction with the move of the program and facilities to the campus in 2018. There is no proposed move of professional staff currently located on Bankstown campus as a result of this change proposal.

An information session will be held on Tues 12 Sept 2017 at Bankstown Campus.

Please RSVP to attend.
