The UWS Solar Car Team is a student led initiative to design, construct and build solar powered race cars for the prestigious World Solar Challenge. Originally a final year engineering project of 4 students to design a small solar-electric runabout, the program has developed into a fully fledged university race team that competed for the first time in the WSC in 2013.
The team is comprised of students from a range of disciplines and is housed at our state of the art engineering labs at the Kingswood campus. Having come 11th out of 22 entrants in their first attempt against more experienced and better resourced teams, our team is poised to build upon its experience and take on the 2015 World Solar Challenge.
This event is a world famous and epic challenge from Darwin down to Adelaide some 3000km south through the great Australian outback. Teams from some of the most prestigious institutions in the world will meet in the tropical heat of Darwin every second October for a friendly competition to win the World Solar Challenge.
Outside the pressures of design and racing the team and its solar car works hard to promote engineering, science & sustainability with the community.
The UWS Solar Car Team is always seeking new students and volunteers to become a part of the team and join in this often once in a life time experience. We are also encouraging experts, leaders and companies to mentor and support our students so they may realise their full potential through this great program.
