Tax Clinic

The Western Sydney University Tax Clinic provides advice and support for unrepresented, lower income or vulnerable taxpayers and small businesses while also assisting in developing practical experience for accounting students as the future of the tax profession.

Advice and support is provided by Western Sydney University accounting students under the supervision of experienced academic staff who are also registered tax agents.

The Western Sydney University Tax Clinic intends to raise awareness and understanding of issues in the current tax system and will also hold a series of public information sessions throughout the year


 

The Tax Clinic undertakes to:
  • Provide free advice, guidance, and assistance on tax matters including; lodgement, debt, review and appeal rights, and general tax law
  • Represent low income or vulnerable taxpayers in dealings with the ATO
  • Create educational activities to better inform students, taxpayers and the broader community on the current tax system
  • Advocate on behalf of groups of affected clients when systematic issues are identified in their dealings with the ATO, Government, or other institutions
To be eligible for the services of the Tax Clinic, clients must:
  • Be currently unrepresented (do not have a tax agent);
  • Be an individual or small business entity

Location & appointments

This free service is available face-to-face and in limited circumstances appointments can be made via Zoom.

Opening hours:

The WSU Tax Clinic is open from March – November.

Interested in being a tax clinic advisor?

The tax clinic is an opportunity for students currently enrolled in a WSU accounting degree to gain experience in this field. You will work directly with the public and tax professionals, providing advice and support for unrepresented, lower income or vulnerable tax payers and small businesses.
