Timeline

1970s–1990s: Foundations and Early Growth
  • 1976 — Establishment of the School of Business within Nepean College; introduction of the Associate Diploma of Commerce.
  • 1977 — Launch of the first full degree: Bachelor of Business, with a strong emphasis on Accounting.
  • 1991—setting up a new commerce degree with focus on Accounting and Marketing by UWSH, assigned to an independent commerce centre
  • 1992-3—Combined degrees in science and commerce were introduced
  • 1993Faculty of Management forms by merging Commerce and Land Economy groups
  • 1993- Part-time MBA initiated
  • 1996—Faculty moved to Nirimba Campus at Quakers Hill
  • 1992-8- Course portfolio expansion including Financial services, hospitality and information systems
  • 1998 — Expansion of postgraduate degrees through the Sydney Graduate School of Management (SGSM), marking the school’s entry into postgraduate management education.
2000s: International Expansion
  • 2008 — Start of Vietnam operations through partnership with the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) offering Bachelor of Business and later MBA
2010s: Modernisation and Community Impact
  • 2017 — Official relocation of the Business School to 1 Parramatta Square (1PSQ), strengthening its presence in Parramatta’s CBD.

  • 2019 — Launch of the WSU Business Tax Clinic, part of the Australian Government’s National Tax Clinic Pilot Program.

    • Provides free tax advice to vulnerable and unrepresented taxpayers.
    • Offers supervised, real-world experience for accounting students.
2020s: Accreditation, Innovation, and Global Reach
  • 2021 — Achievement of AACSB Accreditation, placing the school among the top 6% of business schools globally.
  • 2023 — Opening of the Financial Trading Lab, enhancing experiential learning in finance, analytics, and markets.
  • 2025 — Launch of Bachelor of Business and MBA programs in Surabaya, Indonesia, expanding the school’s Southeast Asian footprint.
  • 2026 — Launch of the Sustainability Lab and SME Centre, supporting research, innovation, and small business engagement.
