Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan Scholarships

Western Sydney University and The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have established a collaborative arrangement to provide high quality research training to candidates from Pakistan at Western Sydney University.

Successful candidates will enrol in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program and undertake a supervised research project at Western Sydney University.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a citizen and permanent resident of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at the time of your application;
  • have submitted an application for an HEC Overseas Scholarship(opens in a new window) and received an invitation to apply from HEC;
  • satisfy the Australian Government requirements for a student visa(opens in a new window) for postgraduate research;
  • have applied for admission and meet all admission entry requirements, including English proficiency;
  • have received an offer for admission into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program at Western Sydney University;
  • have received a conditional offer for scholarship from Western Sydney University; and
  • satisfy all other eligibility criteria as defined by HEC.

What does the scholarship provide?

HEC Research Scholarships provide financial support that is co-funded by Western Sydney University and HEC.

HEC will provide a stipend living allowance, a contribution towards Overseas Student Health Cover, and a return international airfare to Australia.

You should check the HEC international scholarships website(opens in a new window) to confirm the scholarship inclusions as these may be subject to change.

Western Sydney University will provide a tuition fee waiver scholarship that covers the cost of tuition fees for successful applicants for a maximum period of up to 48 months.

How to apply

Step 1: Submit your HEC Overseas Scholarship application.

You are required to directly apply for an HEC Overseas Scholarship before the application deadline and meet all requirements set by HEC.

Step 2: Receive an invitation to apply from HEC.

If your application is shortlisted by HEC, you will be sent a formal invitation to apply for admission at Western Sydney University.

Step 3: Find a supervisor

You need to find a supervisor at Western Sydney University and acquire a supervisor letter of support to include in your application.

Step 4: Submit an application for admission

You need to submit an online application for admission into a PhD program at Western Sydney University and ensure that you include all the required information and supporting documentation.

Step 5: Notify the Graduate Research School

After you have submitted your application for admission, you need to contact the Graduate Research School to notify us that you would like to be considered for an HEC Research Scholarship.

Step 6: Receive your offer of admission and scholarship

The Graduate Research School will assess your application, and if successful you will be issued with an offer of admission and scholarship into our PhD program.

Step 7: Submit your HEC Research Scholarship application

When you have received the required documentation from the Graduate Research School, you should submit your application(opens in a new window) to HEC for consideration.

The final selection for HEC Research Scholarships is made according to HEC requirements and priorities.

Application to Western Sydney University

Applications open: 01 July

Applications close: 31 December

The Graduate Research School will send you an outcome by 01 March.

Applications received after 31 December or incomplete applications may not receive an outcome until after 01 March and this may impact your eligibility to apply for HEC Research Scholarship.
