Professor Nikolaus Sucher of the Centre for Complementary Medicine is investigating the ability of hormones such as oestrogen and other similar natural compounds to protect the brain from degenerative disease by looking at their effects on a molecular level. Dr Sansnee Jirojwong, Dr Sharon Hillege and Associate Professor Virginia Schmied of the School of Nursing and Midwifery with Professor Pranee LiamPuttong of Latrobe University are developing multimedia educational materials to help Vietnamese-Australian women with gestational diabetes improve their self-management of this condition. Funded by the Department of Health and Ageing.

Dr Elizabeth Halcomb from the Family and Community Health Research Group and Professor Patricia Davidson from Curtin University of Technology will evaluate the impact of scholarships on the quality of care and confidence of general practice nurses within Australia. This project has been funded by the Australian Department of Health & Aging through the Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA).

Professor David Tissue from the Centre for Plants and the Environment is examining the impact of forest fire on water use by trees and groundwater recharge within a highland catchment.
