Australian Research Council (ARC) Schemes

Expression of Interest Process

An Expression of Interest (EoI) process has been implemented for all external funding applications. The purpose of this EOI process is to ensure applicants are provided with the best possible support, to maximise the University's success and reputation in major competitive rounds, and to ensure that only high quality proposals are submitted. The EOI process will examine criteria such as:

  • Excitement, rigour and innovation of the proposed project
  • Publication intensity, citation analyses and academic impact in the field – track record
  • Capability and experience of the applicant
  • Supportive research environment
  • Alignment with University research strengths and themes

For further information, please see Grant Development Support Process (opens in a new window)

Application Submission

The Australian Research Council (ARC) (opens in a new window) funds research and researchers under the National Competitive Grants Programme (NCGP) as part of its commitment to nurturing the creative abilities and skills of Australia's most promising researchers. Applications for funding must be submitted online using the ARC's Research Management System (RMS) (opens in a new window)

If you need to set up an account, you can Request a New Account (opens in a new window) online or complete the Request for RMS 2.0 User Account form (PDF, 622.28 KB) (opens in a new window) and your Research Development Officer (RDO) will set it up for you. We encourage applicants to set up accounts for CIs and PIs well in advance of the internal deadlines.

If you have applied for ARC funding before, you can login to RMS 2.0 by using the email address associated with your account. If you need to reset your password, the link to do so is on the RMS login page (opens in a new window)

For all enquiries regarding ARC funding opportunities and application advice, including budgets and grant writing support, contact your Research Development Officer (RDO)

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by all researchers who intend to apply for a LIEF award with Western Sydney University as the administering institution and also for those researchers who would like to participate on another institution's bid.

It is usual practice for NSW universities to participate in a lengthy coordination process which involves the preparation and dissemination of a consolidated spreadsheet of all proposed bids for review by the sector in order to avoid duplication of equipment requests. Therefore, you will need to lodge your LIEF EoI and apply for co-contribution of University Central Funds towards your proposed request before the program officially opens (the co-contribution is likely to be on a 50:50 basis with the host area).
