Description

Dear Colleagues,

The School of Psychology invites you to attend the Psychological Health and Wellbeing in Multicultural Australia: Progress, Challenges and Future Directions Research Forum

Date: 29th November 2023

Time: 10am to 4pm

Venue: Bankstown City Campus, Level 8, Conference Room 2.

74 Rickard Road, Bankstown NSW 2200

One in five persons within the general population will experience mental illness. The help-seeking for, expression of, and assessment and interventions for psychological disorders are influenced by many factors including individual and cultural diversity. Moreover, the recent pandemic has given rise to more complex presentations, greater demand for psychological services from the public, and increased stress and burnout among practitioners. Researchers within the Psychological Health and Care theme, and across the School of Psychology more generally, explore newer and more effective assessments and interventions, more efficient ways of delivering them, and examine challenges associated with training practitioners.

The forum Psychological Health and Wellbeing in Multicultural Australia: Progress, Challenges and Future Directions draws attention to a few important, current issues.

The keynote, “Promoting help seeking for mental health in multicultural Australia”, highlights an important issue related to the planning and delivery of psychological services.

The forum focuses on three themes:

1) Cognitive testing in Australia: Challenges and opportunities

2) Practitioner training and wellbeing in Australia: Challenges and opportunities

3) Eating disorders and higher weight: challenges and opportunities

The forum has recruited contributions from eminent speakers both from within the School of Psychology and nationally.

Distinguished Professor Frank Deane, University of Wollongong will deliver the keynote address and Professor Robert Schweitzer, Chair of the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) will present on challenges for practitioner training and supervision.

The forum is a face-to-face event and offers excellent value for researchers, clinicians, educators, psychology trainees and students and is FREE.

Limited spaces, please register at your first opportunity. Detailed programme will be emailed to those who register.

Please feel free to disseminate to interested colleagues and researchers.
