Description

Chair: Ned Rossiter

Presenters: Anna Pertierra, Liam Magee, Heather Horst

Consisting of three short presentations by leading WSU researchers experienced with managing complex multi-sited projects that range from local to international scales with multiple academic, government and industry partners, this workshop asks a basic question: how do you do it? The presentations will speak to challenges, strategies and organizational practices that attend managing research projects of different life spans and across Category 1, 2 and 3 schemes.

Less about technicalities related to pre- and post-award project management, the workshop highlights the often complex and delicate work of negotiating personas of collaborators and site specific research that frequently has to be receptive and amenable to changing circumstances (e.g. participating researchers coming in and out of the project, experiments or adjustments to methods, changes to the central aims/objectives of the project and adjusting these in ways that remain faithful to the shifting orientation of interests, responsiveness to industry partners, projects that fail, etc.).
