Dr Firdaus Wajdi

Biography

Firdaus Wajdi is associate professor of Islamic studies at the Islamic Education Program, Universitas Negeri Jakarta [State University of Jakarta] and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Social Sciences (2021-2025).  He obtained his PhD from the Religion and Society Research Cluster, Western Sydney University in 2016. He was a participant of Summer School for IISEP (IAIN-Indonesia Social Equity Project) at Mc Gill University, Canada (2005), selected member of Summer School of Cityscapes and New Religiosities in Asia at Goettingen University, Germany (2014), research fellow of Higher Education Dialog with Muslim World at Leipzig University, Germany (2016), and visiting scholar at University California, Riverside, USA (2018). He was editor in chief of Hayula: Indonesian Journal of Multidisciplinary Islamic Studies and currently editor in chief of Satwika: Journal of Community Service Studies.

Wajdi’s research focuses on the intersections of Religion (Islam) and Globalization, Transnational Islamic Organization/Movement, and Sufism in Indonesian Context. On distinctive occasions, he carried out research activities in Canada, Egypt, Türkiye, Germany, Australia, and Indonesia. He is a book chapter co-author of "Branding of Spiritual Authenticity and Nationalism in Transnational Sufism" in Patrick Michel et al. (Eds): Religions, Nations, and Transnationalism in Multiple Modernities (Palgrave McMillan, 2017); one of contributors of the SAGE Encyclopedia of the Sociology of Religion (2020), and a book chapter author of Routledge International Handbook of Religion in Global Society (2021).
