Learning about Extinction and Conservation
Afghan Men's Group and NSW STARTTS
The Afghan Men's Group participated in the Auburn CALD Community Environment Engagement Project and attended a Sydney University Biological Museum Tour. The group learnt about the importance of conservation for native animals and insects.
"We learnt about the nice history of Australia and saw Australian animals that we never saw much of before. We enjoyed speaking to Professor Dieter. He told us about the animals and how some don't exist anymore and that it is good to try and save animals and insects from dying forever. This is interesting for us to learn because we didn't know much about it before. We saw dinosaur bones which we have never seen before, only in the movies – this was really interesting. The Professor told us about his work with insects and saving them. He told us about how important insects are and that we need trees for insects to live in. The Afghan Men's Group really enjoyed meeting him and hearing his lecture and seeing the museum with the dried insects and animals and bones of the old animals. It was a great day we really enjoyed and learned a lot."
