Parramatta City campus Provost

A message from Professor Meg Smith, Provost, Parramatta City campus

Welcome to Parramatta City where you will find the Peter Shergold Building and the Engineering Innovation Hub.

As Provost, I have responsibility for community relations and specific issues which relate to the Parramatta City campuses. The Office of the Provost also has responsibility for the Campus Provost Committee which consists of representatives from staff and students on campus. We offer Campus Provost Grants that are open to students, staff, or organized groups (details below). If you have any ideas for a more vibrant and engaging campus for students and staff which might include (and is not limited to) cultural, social, educational and recreational events, publications and exhibitions, please submit them to the Committee (details below).

About our campuses

The University's flagship Parramatta City Campus, the Peter Shergold Building (1PSQ) is a $220.5 million commercial development consisting of a 14-storey, 26,500m², A-grade building as part of the Parramatta Square precinct and redevelopment. The building spearheaded one of Australia's biggest urban renewal projects and supports the transition of Parramatta into a true university city. The building is owned by two of Charter Hall's managed funds, was developed by Charter Hall and constructed by John Holland. Western Sydney University has committed to a 15-year lease of the building.

Here you will find the School of Business and the Sydney Graduate School of Management. The building is also home to student services (opens in a new window), the library (opens in a new window), prayer rooms (opens in a new window), counselling (opens in a new window), and mother’s rooms.

The Peter Shergold Building is located at 169 Macquarie Street.

The Engineering Innovation Hub (EIH) was opened at 6 Hassall Street in late 2021. The EIH is a state-of-the-art building providing the highest quality educational opportunities, community partnerships, and world-class research expertise to Australia's fastest growing region. The EIH is a $300 million partnership between Charter Hall Group, Western Sydney University, and the University of New South Wales. The campus will house a collaborative Bachelor of Engineering Advanced (Honours) program developed and delivered in partnership with UNSW, in addition to course offerings in Architecture, Industrial Design and Entrepreneurship. Here you will also find LaunchPad (opens in a new window).

The Engineering Innovation Hub (EIH) is located at 6 Hassall Street.

Location

Our Parramatta City campuses are located in the civic heart of Parramatta city, providing exceptional opportunities to collaborate and engage with business and industry.

You can find details on the location of our Parramatta City campuses here (opens in a new window).

Parramatta Square lies at the heart of our Parramatta City Campuses and is fast becoming a lively, cosmopolitan area with future development plans including residential apartments, a 150-room hotel, retail and office spaces, civic building, community centre and public library.

The central location of the Parramatta City campuses, in one of the fastest growing CBDs in the country, will enhance the learning experiences of our students, providing close links to industry, community and government. Students and staff have easy access to public transport, as the Parramatta Transport Interchange, connecting rail and bus networks to the Sydney CBD and beyond, is less than 100 metres from each campus. The Parramatta Light Rail is set to open in 2023 and construction commenced in 2021 on a new Metro Line connecting Parramatta with the Sydney CBD.

Interested in joining our committee?

The Parramatta City Provost is happy to receive Expressions of Interest from students (domestic & international), based at the Parramatta City Campuses, who are interested in joining the Parramatta City Campus Provost Committee.

The committee meets four times per year and develops a calendar of campus-wide events to bring staff and students together, as well as to discuss ways we can improve campus-life for students, staff and visitors.

Some initiatives out of the Provost Committee include the soup kitchen, providing free nutritious meals for students, and events like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, Harmony Day & NAIDOC week. We would also like members to help come up with event ideas as well as assist in preparing for on-campus events.

Please forward your Expression of Interest to ParramattaCity.Provost@westernsydney.edu.au.
