Ali Yassine Equity Scholarship


$7,500 per year for three years


New or Continuing Students


Any undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Western Sydney University


Applicants must:

  • have been granted a permanent humanitarian visa within the last five years.
  • demonstrate disadvantage based on the Western Opportunity and Equity criteria
  • demonstrate equity considerations such as economic, social or other disadvantage, based in equity considerations as assessed by the University
  • Some preference will be given to students of Islamic Faith

Mr Ali Yassine

Mr Ali Yassine is the Father of eight, who came as a refugee from Lebanon in 1977. He successfully raised his children, in this wonderful nation of Australia and is proud to contribute to the economic, cultural and social fabric.

Mr Ali Yassine raised eight children, who share some 30 degrees between them in Law, Medicine, Teaching and Business.He is a strong believer in the transformational power and importance of tertiary education. Especially for those who are disadvantaged, less fortunate or come from difficult circumstances.

Applications and Selection Process

Applicants must provide a statement in support of their application indicating how they believe the receipt of the scholarship will assist them with their studies and in their future career. This statement should give a sufficient explanation of the applicant's background and current circumstances to enable the University to judge their eligibility, need and merit.

Successful applicants will be selected based on their written application, academic potential, their ability to meet the criteria and, where appropriate, performance in an interview before a selection panel.
