About the Western Sydney University Online Master of Financial Planning course
The Western Sydney University Online Master of Financial Planning is designed to equip you with the essentials and meet the growing industry demand for specialist skills in financial planning.
Students will develop comprehensive knowledge and skills relating to financial markets, financial products, investment, risk management, financial planning, taxation law, compliance, and professional conduct.
Course and unit curriculum is based on Australian law. This course is accredited by the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and meets the RG146 requirements. The course satisfies eligibility requirements for Financial Planner AFP® membership and educational requirements for entry into the CFP® Certification Program of FPA (students will also receive exemption for CFP 2, 3 and 4 therefore must complete CFP 1 to be eligible to sit the CFP Certification Assessment).
This course also meets the RG146 generic knowledge requirements, specialist knowledge requirements and skills requirements as they currently stand.
Successfully completed an undergraduate degree, or higher, in any discipline AND have a minimum of two (2) years full-time equivalent managerial/professional work experience in a related field; Or,
Successfully completed an undergraduate degree, or higher, in any discipline AND have a minimum of five (5) years general work experience in a related field.

Lecturer, Accounting and Financial Planning
Sharon Taylor is a senior lecturer in Accounting at Western Sydney University. She has worked at the Australian Taxation Office and is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a Registered Tax Agent. For many years, she was an academic supervisor in the School of Accounting, and also for many years the Associate Head of the School Engagement at Western Sydney University. Sharon is a current member of the Financial Planning Academic Forum and Deputy Chair of the Financial Educators. Additionally, she held the role of convenor of the Financial Services Discipline Team for many years, and was Chair of the committee developing both the Master of Commerce (Financial Planning) and Bachelor of Financial Advising degree programs.

Laurel joined Western Sydney University as a lecturer in 2006. Prior to that she had 20 years as a senior marketing professional working in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region including extensive experience in strategic marketing programs focused predominately on the financial services
Experience encompasses the development of strategic frameworks, policies and implementation plans in the areas of marketing strategy; brand positioning, market segmentation, strategic research and analysis; customer database modelling and marketing to extract value from existing customer databases, particularly with regard to customer relationship management in financial services. In depth experience of managing customer relationships, customer contact, customer satisfaction and customer service dynamics and measures.
Brand champion for leading brands in Australia, AMP, Optus, St George, the Development Bank of Singapore in Asia and Navigator-Asia. Corporate roles included Marketing Director St George Bank Head of group Marketing DBS Bank Singapore.
