iCog X Boost
Investigating the Effects of Cognitive Training Combined with Intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation (iTBS) on Cognitive Function in Mild Cognitive Impairment
Who can join?
We are recruiting adults aged 55–80 years who have Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or concerns about changes in their memory or thinking. Participants will complete an online Expression of Interest form followed by a brief phone screening to determine eligibility.
What's involved?
Participants will:
- Complete an online Expression of Interest form and a brief phone screening.
- Attend baseline, midpoint, endpoint and follow-up assessments.
- Be randomly allocated to receive either active or sham (inactive) brain stimulation, with all participants completing the same cognitive training program.
- Attend 5 consecutive in-person sessions during the first week, followed by weekly online cognitive training for nine weeks.
- Undergo non-invasive brain stimulation (iTBS), cognitive assessments, and EEG brain activity recordings throughout the study.
- The study runs over approximately 18 weeks.
Potential benefits
Participants may experience improvements in memory, attention and thinking skills, although this cannot be guaranteed. The study will help researchers evaluate a potential non-drug intervention for Mild Cognitive Impairment and contribute to the development of future treatments.
Location
NICM Health Research Institute, Westmead or the School of Health Sciences, Campbelltown, Western Sydney University.
Participant reimbursement
Participants receive $30 per in-person visit to assist with travel costs. Free parking and refreshments are also provided.
