NICM PhD Graduates

We are delighted to congratulate three of NICM's PhD candidates, Kate Levett, Michael Armour, and Susan Arentz on their recent thesis submission and official notification of graduation, which is set for early next month.

• Kate's thesis concentrated on the utilisation of complementary medicine techniques to reduce usage of pharmacological pain relief during labour and childbirth.
• Mike's thesis examined how acupuncture treatment for primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods) is delivered in the community and investigated how changing different components of acupuncture dosage effects pain and dysfunction in primary dysmenorrhea.
• Susan's thesis investigated the role of naturopathy in the management of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), comprising a review of the evidence of the herbal medicines, a survey of the use of complementary medicine by women with PCOS, and a clinical trial evaluating the effects of a combined herbal and nutritional supplement, compared with first line conventional medical management of PCOS.

An outstanding achievement by all three PhD candidates, well done!
