NICM Health Research Institute’s (NICM) world-class research has featured in leading media outlets internationally and nationally, with so far over 1500 pieces of coverage generated, reaching potential 1 billion impressions.

Coverage generated includes NICM commentary on complementary medicine and health insurance changes and the NHMRC Review; expert commentary from Professor Jerome Sarris on food and nutrition, Dr Joseph Firth on depression and medicinal cannabis, as well as mental health; Dr Firth’s research published about the Internet and our brain, as well as his paper on diet and depression; Professor Caroline Smith and Dr Mike Armour’s paper about acupuncture increasing pregnancy rates for women with repeated IVF failure, Dr Mike Armour’s research on period pain, and also Dr Armour’s latest paper this week about period pain and its impact in education.

Key highlights:

• Dr Mike Armour received significant coverage across the ABC network in January discussing his latest research on period pain and effectiveness of self-care and lifestyle interventions. Coverage was generated across ABC News at Noon, ABC News Afternoon, ABC 24, ABC News, ABC Radio News, ABC Triple J Hack online and radio, as well as Women’s Health and Girlfriend. In addition, his recent paper and the Conversation article about period pain and its impact on women missing class has received wide spread interest with over 60 articles and coverage in influential media outlets such as Business Standard (India), Yahoo!, News18 (India), India Today, Bustle, Doctissimo (France), CAN (Singapore), Stuff (NZ).

• February and June saw outstanding media coverage from Dr Joseph Firth’s papers. In February Dr Firth’s paper on the impact of diet on depression was picked up by Forbes, Daily Mail (UK), SMH (syndicated to The Age, Stuff.co.nz, The Canberra Times, WAtoday, Brisbane Times), ABC NEWS, SBS, The Medical News (AU), Science Daily, Medical News Today (UK), Medical Xpress (UK), MSN Latino, France and Belgium, The Economic Times (India), Times Now (India), Business Standard (India), YahooNews (India), РИА Новости (Russia) and AJC (US).
