Kate has over 20 years’ experience in teaching, research and clinical acupuncture practice and has an extensive national and international cross-disciplinary collaborative research network. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Notre Dame Australia (UNDA), National School of Medicine; and was awarded an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship (2019-23). She is an Honorary Fellow at the Centre for Midwifery, Child and Family Health, University of Technology Sydney, and an Adjunct Fellow at the NICM Health Research Institute and member of the Translational Health Research Institute (THRI), Western Sydney University.

In her role as a NICM Health Research Institute adjunct fellow, Kate focuses on research that promotes maternal and reproductive health, and the use of complementary therapies for women’s health.  She graduated in 2016, with a PhD from Western Sydney University. Her research project at NICM HRI evaluated the effectiveness of evidence based complementary medicine techniques to reduce pharmacological pain relief during labour and childbirth. Kate supervises interdisciplinary PhD, Masters and MD (medical degree) research projects, across universities and hospitals in maternal and women’s health.

Kate has a Ministerial appointment on the Chinese Medicine Council of NSW, and is on the editorial board of the Q1 journal Women and Birth (WOMBI). Her research focus is on maternal health research, public health and enhancing public health education in development countries. She has received grants, fellowships, presentation and public speaking awards, and published in high-ranking peer reviewed journals, and is a leader in the field of maternal health, complementary medicine, clinical research and epidemiology.
