Dr James Lake was appointed Adjunct Research Fellow at NICM Health Research Institute in 2019. Dr Lake is an academic, author and expert in integrative mental health and integrative psychiatry. He is a Board certified psychiatrist practicing on the central California coast and a visiting assistant professor of medicine at the Center for Integrative Medicine , University of Arizona School of Medicine. He previously served on adjunct clinical faculty at Stanford University Hospital, Department of Behavioral Medicine where he supervised residents in evidence-based uses of complementary, alternative and integrative approaches addressing psychiatric disorders.

Dr Lake's research focuses on evidence-based uses of non-pharmacologic modalities for achieving optimal wellbeing and treating psychiatric disorders. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and chapters on integrative medicine and psychiatry. He contributes a regular column on integrative mental health care to Psychiatric Times, and serves on the editorial review boards of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, and Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. He is the author, co-author or editor of five textbooks on alternative and integrative mental health care, and the author of a series of 10 short books for individuals interested in non-pharmacologic treatments of depressed mood, anxiety, ADHD and other common mental health problems.
