The Australian Research Council announced earlier in December (opens in a new window) its third Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) report, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the quality and breadth of university research.

NICM's continued rating as an ERA 5 institute demonstrates its focus to deliver rigorous research that translates into meaningful outcomes for industry, business, government, community and education partners and has an impact regional, national and globally, as supported in the University's Securing Success 2015 - 2020 Strategic Plan. NICM Executive Director, Professor Alan Bensoussan says the Institute's 2015 ERA 5 rating showcases Australia's global leadership and strength in conducting world-class research and innovations in complementary medicine.

"To have our research rated consecutively as an ERA 5 institute - the highest rating of well above world standard – highlights Australia's contribution and leadership when it comes to science and evidence research, it is also a testament to NICM's dynamic and innovative culture and hunger to produce high-quality research at a global level," said Professor Bensoussan.

"Our talented and innovative researchers, professional staff and students are what make our research institute unique.  Their skills and talents are diverse and we are very passionate about what we do, contributing to societal needs, and empowering people with their own wellbeing through research and evidence informed choice."

This year's ERA assessment sees the Western Sydney University achieve its best ever results (opens in a new window) overall, with 80 per cent of the University's Fields of Research assessed as being at, above or well above world standard.

"These results confirm what we in the University already know: we are a world-leading, research-led university, making a real difference to people's lives and communities through our research capabilities," says Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover.

"The unlimited opportunities we offer our students are underpinned by the world's best research. These outstanding ERA results cap off what has been a wonderful year for Western Sydney University."

ERA is a national evaluation of research quality in Australian universities conducted by the Australian Government and administered by the Australian Research Council (ARC). (opens in a new window)

The ERA initiative is aimed at evaluating excellence in all areas of research within the Australian higher education sector. It seeks to assess research quality using a combination of indicators and expert review by committees comprising experienced, internationally-recognised experts.
