NICM welcomes new members

We welcome NICM's new Clinical Research Officer, Afshan Khan, who will be working with Professor Caroline Smith on the Complementary Medicine Health Literacy Study. Afshan graduated from the Bachelor of Oral Sciences in 2006 and was awarded the Australian Development Scholarship to pursue a Master of Public Health from The University of Melbourne in 2010.

In addition, we welcome back to NICM, PhD graduates, Dr Debra Betts and Dr Kate Levett, as NICM Adjunct Fellows.

Debra brings a wealth of knowledge with over 25 years' experience to the NICM team in the field of acupuncture, nursing, midwifery and women's health. She lectures internationally on the use of acupuncture in obstetric care and is the Director of Postgraduate Programs at New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She also is a clinical supervisor at an antenatal acupuncture clinic in Wellington, New Zealand.

Kate is a research specialist with over 15 years' experience in public health research, education, clinical trials, epidemiology and management. She has extensive experience in quantitative and qualitative research application and education, with awarded presentation and public speaking skills, and publications in high quality peer reviewed journals. Kate focuses on research that promotes maternal and reproductive health.
