26 July 2016

This month, we saw national media interest in Dr Kate Levett's PhD research results and paper Complementary therapies for labour and birth study: a randomised controlled trial of antenatal integrative medicine for pain management in labour, which was published in BMJ Open.

Over 450 pieces of coverage were generated, including a front page story in the Sydney Morning Herald, articles in the Daily Telegraph, the Courier Mail, Adelaide Advertiser, Canberra Times, various broadcast outlets such as ABC News 24, SBS World News, 7News, TEN Eyewitness News, ABC Radio National programs - The World Today and Life Matters, ABC 702, ABC National Radio News, additional online media coverage and an AAP story.

In the month of June, Australian media covered extensively NICM research committee member, Associate Professor Vicki Kotsirilos' appointment as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours List for 2016 with over 130 pieces of coverage.

NICM Professor Caroline Smith was interviewed on WIN News discussing her new research project and grant which will focus on health literacy and educating older people in the management and use of off-the-shelve medicines. Grant supporter IRT Foundation say funding for projects like this is necessary to provide better care for Australia's ageing population.
