Sydney Science Festival: Collaborating On Improving Community Health

How can we use sport as a tool to promote health? Or use churches as a setting to tackle diabetes? Have you ever wondered whether we can do more to promote healthy ageing, cancer screening or health service engagement?

Western Sydney University are committed to working collaboratively with health, community, and industry stakeholders to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community. At NICM Health Research Institute and Translational Health Research Institute (THRI), our researchers work across a range of areas including chronic disease prevention, dementia and healthy ageing, and community-based intervention design, implementation, and evaluation.

By working with community and industry stakeholders, our research is positioned to empower individuals and groups to make sustainable changes to their health behaviours, and change lives.

Join us at Western Sydney University’s Parramatta South campus where, as part of Sydney Science Festival, we showcase Western Sydney University’s collaborative and innovative approaches to improving health and wellbeing.

1.00-2.00pm: Keynote presentations

• Keynote presentations from Western’s leading health and medical researchers and partner specialists

2.00-3.00pm: Presentations

• Rapid fire presentations from researchers and students on working with partners for research impact and engagement

3.00-3.30pm: Panel presentation

• An industry stakeholder panel, discussing the benefits of collaborative, evidence-based approaches to community health

3.30-5.00pm: Networking and light refreshments
