Description

NICM Health Research Institute presents Associate Professor Jane Nikles, Centre for Clinical Research Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland.

Join guest webinar speaker Associate Professor Jane Nikles as she discusses research methodology and clinical trial design.

Associate Professor Nikles is a registered medical practitioner with over 20 years of experience in conducting personalised clinical trials using N-of-1 trials and other types of single-case designs. She has studied and published extensively about N-of-1 trial design, and continues to explore the applications of such trials to optimise patient health outcomes.

Abstract
N-of-1 trials are well-suited to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) research. CAM practitioners use patient-centred whole person approaches to treatment that fit well with individually-tailored research methods. However, a number of challenges arise when designing N-of-1 trials in CAM research, including slow onset and offset of therapeutic effect and unknown washout periods. Associate Professor Nikles will discuss in this webinar several possible single-case designs that take into account these issues.

Keywords: N-of-1 trials; single-case designs; research design.
