Abstract

Endometriosis management has followed a traditional medical model for many years, with hormone-based medications and surgery the mainstays of treatment. The Clinical Guidelines on the diagnosis and management of endometriosis were a key deliverable of the 2018 National Action Plan on Endometriosis and 75 recommendations were made with a determination of overall low-quality evidence. This primarily included traditional approaches, with notation of absence of specific sub-groups of the Australian population represented in the available evidence and treatment options including diet, CAM therapies and physiotherapy for symptom management poorly represented. There are a range of national programs that aim to improve the available evidence and deliver higher quality care for women with endometriosis which Professor Abbott will present.
