Western Sydney University rallies behind Year 12 students with free study sessions

Western Sydney University will offer a range of online study sessions to assist Year 12 students in their preparations for the HSC during a disrupted year due to the pandemic.

Delivered by highly qualified senior teachers, 26 free sessions across 14 key HSC subject areas will run during the school holidays from 20 to 24 September.

Pro Vice-Chancellor, Engagement and Advancement, Professor Alphia Possamai-Inesedy, said she hoped the sessions would particularly assist those in hotspot areas in Sydney’s west.

“It has been an incredibly challenging lead-up for many students in their final year of high school, and we are proud to provide a supportive online study experience for this year’s cohort,” said Professor Possamai-Inesedy.

“The sessions are led by expert educators and are aimed at helping Year 12 students to boost their skills, knowledge and confidence ahead of the HSC.”

Delivered via an interactive webinar, the sessions will include content analysis, tips and strategies, and a detailed exploration of key syllabus and curriculum areas. Students also have the opportunity to sit a practice exam and deconstruction, with feedback and advice from experts.

Additionally, students will have access to Academic Enrichment Sessions delivered by Western Sydney University academics across multiple subjects to provide further support and enrichment to them as they prepare to sit the HSC.

Holly Purcell, who completed the HSC in 2020 and is now studying the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Applied Physics) at Western Sydney University, said the sessions were invaluable to her.

“The presenters were friendly, passionate and informative about their subject, and provided me with so much helpful advice on how to study and sit my exams,” said Holly.

“I think it's incredibly valuable that these free sessions are offered, as students are provided with important information to do their best during the HSC.

“The fact that they are free also makes them accessible to everyone, so no students are academically disadvantaged by something they can't entirely control.”

The HSC Study Sessions are offered in partnership with leading education services provider InspirationED, with their team of highly qualified HSC teachers and experienced markers to deliver the sessions.

Sessions will cover Advanced and Standard English, Chemistry, Economics, Advanced and Standard Maths, Geography, Business Studies, Biology, PDHPE, Legal Studies, Community and Family Studies, Modern History and Physics.
