Governance appointments for Western Sydney University

Board member and proud Western Sydney University alumna, Ms Carmel Hourigan, has been appointed Deputy Chancellor, while longstanding Board member Mr Christopher Brown AM has been appointed Pro Chancellor of the University.

Both Carmel and Christopher are leaders in their respective fields, and have made distinguished contributions to Australian business and community organisations.

Carmel is the Global Head of Real Estate for AMP Capital, with more than 22 years’ experience in the real estate investment industry. She has worked with some of Australia’s most recognised companies, in key senior leadership positions across funds management, research and advisory services.

She currently sits on the Property Council of Australia Board of Directors and serves as Special Advisor to the Property Male Champions of Change group, which is dedicated to increasing gender equality in the property industry. She is also a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute.

Christopher is one of Greater Western Sydney’s most passionate advocates. He has served on dozens of government committees and taskforces over 25 years, including leading two of the nation's most high-profile CEO-based industry lobby groups ¬– Tourism and Transport Forum and Infrastructure Partnerships Australia.

He is Executive Chair of Taylor Street Advisory and is also Chairman and Founder of the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue, a not-for-profit, community initiative leading a national conversation about Greater Western Sydney.

Western Sydney University Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold AC, congratulated both Carmel and Christopher on their new roles.

“Carmel and Christopher have both been outstanding champions for our Greater Western Sydney region. As Board members, they also have made significant and sustained contributions to the governance of our University.
