Experimental electro-acoustic music offers a new vehicle of expression
Experimental electroband – AustraLYSIS’s boundary-pushing electro-acoustic music (opens in a new window) – will be performed at Western Sydney University's the Bankstown Campus on Thursday 9 August 2018.
Headed up by Professor Roger Dean, a sonic communication researcher from the University's MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour Development, the internationally renowned group is the longest-standing sound and intermedia ensemble based in Australia.
The performance features the work of Professor Dean (piano, electronics); Sandy Evans (saxophones); Phil Slater (trumpet); Hazel Smith (text performer, electronics); Greg White (electronics, sound diffusion).
“Australysis has been around for 40 years, and was born out of an early desire to progress efforts in music education. The goal is to integrate a multicultural awareness of electro-acoustic performances as a vehicle of expression," said Professor Dean.
By infusing text, sound and streams of images and the ensemble hopes to familiarise the audience with multi-media performance. After the performance there will be a Q&A session to provide further insight into the ensemble’s work and practice.
