Western Sydney University partners with Innovyz to bring research to market

Western Sydney University has announced a partnership with business incubator Innovyz (opens in a new window) to collaborate on the future commercialisation of a range of inventions pioneered by University researchers.

The partnership highlights the University's ambition to realise the enormous potential of its researchers and achieve real impact by their ground breaking work.

The first project under the new partnership is the commercialisation of high-end scientific instrumentation pioneered by Professor Andrew Shalliker, who has written 150 publications and gathered 8 key patents over his 30-year career.

His unique separation technology has the potential to significantly impact a range of pathology, pharmaceutical and other medical industries.

The new process uses novel technologies to increase sample accuracy while significantly reducing the time taken for, and cost of, sample analysis.

Professor Shalliker joined other Australian innovators to present his project at an industry showcase at the Australian Securities Exchange.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Deborah Sweeney says the new partnership demonstrates how Western Sydney University is engaging with business partners to help researchers translate their discoveries to support new, high-value industries and achieve real impact for the benefit of the community.

"By partnering with Innovyz we provide our academics with business support and mentoring networks, and give them access to a robust accelerator model favoured by new start-ups and businesses in high-tech hubs worldwide."
