UWS & WSW brings 'Future for All' to primary students

Local year six students from Ingleburn Public School had the opportunity to participate in a jointly run program 'Future for All', between the University of Western Sydney and the Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club (WSW).

The one day program was divided into five workshops developed specifically for primary students and will be rolled out to a further 9 schools throughout the year.

A Football skills clinic developed by the WSW, conducted by their coaches enhances the importance of physical education along with a 'Dream Big' workshop run by UWS student ambassadors, focusing on students not limiting their education and career aspirations.

Based on the students' passions - The 'Dream Big' workshop includes career planning, where students are offered the opportunity to plan out potential careers and the necessary educational pathways to reach their career goals.

UWS Acting Director, Widening Participation Alan Beckley, says community need for outreach programs is essential, considering the current imbalances in post school education for students, from areas that have not traditionally accessed higher education in great numbers.

"We aim to introduce the students to the concept of university and demystify some of those misconceptions they may have about university study," says Beckley.

Students had the opportunity to hear from WSW team members, who talked about their background and how they found the inspiration and passion to make it as a professional Football player.

Western Sydney Wanderers Community Manager Josh Hunter, says positive role models are vital to help inspire students to maintain their journey towards their own goals; our players will provide a blue print on what they have had to do to achieve success.

Shannon Cole, Western Sydney Wanderers player, says your support network plays a crucial role when striving towards a goal. It is important to surround yourself with like-minded people who also want to better themselves and have big dreams.

At the end of the day students were provided with a WSW jersey.
