The people of Lithgow will have the chance to get their first real look at the fully refurbished Hoskins Building when the University of Western Sydney's Lithgow Campus opens its doors for a special 'Welcome Day' on Tuesday 4 February.

Members of the community are invited to drop in anytime between 12pm and 6pm and tour the building, as well as learn more about the campus and what it has to offer before classes officially get underway in a few weeks time.

There will also be a free BBQ lunch for visitors between 1.00pm and 3.00pm.

Dr Kerry Hudson, Dean and CEO of UWSCollege, which operates the Lithgow campus, says the University is delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the building to the community following its stunning transformation over the past 18 months.

"We have just been overwhelmed by the support we have received since we first announced that UWS would be establishing a campus here in Lithgow," says Dr Hudson.

"The University is proud to be the custodians of this beautiful building, and play a role in providing more tertiary education opportunities for the 20,000 residents of the Lithgow Local Government Area.

"The people of Lithgow have welcomed us into their community and this is our opportunity to say 'thank you'. We hope to see many friends come along on the day, and we hope you will like what you see."

As well as campus tours taking place every hour from 1pm until 5pm, the 'Welcome Day' will also provide locals with an opportunity to talk to UWSCollege staff and learn more about the courses on offer at the Lithgow campus and its innovative approach to teaching and learning.

On display will be the new collaborative learning spaces, the new science and technology laboratories, and other facilities around the campus.

Dr Hudson says UWSCollege is a particularly proud of its approach to flexible learning, which, importantly, enable students to study at a time that best suits them when they are juggling work, family and other commitments.

"UWSCollege is on target to enrol 100 students at the Lithgow campus this year into the Foundation Studies program and Diploma programs in engineering science and arts," says Dr Hudson.

"We certainly expect to expand the range of programs on offer as the Lithgow campus grows and interest increases."
