Western Sydney University supports light rail decision
Western Sydney University welcomes the NSW Government's confirmation today on the light rail route network (opens in a new window) connecting Westmead, the Parramatta CBD and Carlingford, saying it will be a major catalyst for Western Sydney's continued economic development.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover says the announcement shows government is listening to Western Sydney and investing in the right areas to support the region's sustainable growth.
With campuses at Rydalmere, Parramatta CBD and Westmead, the light rail network will provide a much-needed transport link for thousands of Western Sydney University students and staff – providing the necessary frequency of service to efficiently transport them between the region's key employment, commercial and residential districts.
"The light rail is game-changing. Up to 25,000 Western Sydney University students and researchers will be connected to the fastest growing CBD in the country – Parramatta – and its surrounding precincts through this network," says Professor Glover.
"The rapid exchange of people and ideas this type of infrastructure makes possible is how 'smart city' strategies become a reality."
The light rail network, together with planned new infrastructure such as Sydney Metro West, will strengthen the region's capacity to grow the knowledge jobs of the future.
