Mitchell Dumesny was awarded a University Medal when he graduated at the University of Western Sydney's Spring ceremonies on 26 September with a Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics).

Mitchell chose to study at UWS as he lives in Sydney’s West near Rouse Hill and UWS offered a campus that was closer to home.

“This meant less travel time which allowed better opportunities of juggling my studying, work and participation in motorsports,” says Mitchell.

The Bachelor of Engineering (Robotics and Mechatronics) was a clear choice for Mitch has an interest in computers and electronics, along with a passion for motor-racing, which involves engineering.

For his honours thesis, originally he was given the topic of ‘Mathematical Analysis of Granular rice flow through a hopper’ but soon after modified it.

“After much persistence and negotiation I was given the opportunity to pursue a topic which really interested me, which was the analysis and design of an electromagnetic shock-absorber.”

Mitch says, throughout his degree, his lecturers continually went above and beyond to help him excel. Following graduation, he hopes to be able to find a position in a workplace where he can utilise his diverse skill set.

“After some time in the workforce I may consider studying for my PHD. In doing so, I would like to focus more on regenerative energy and further developing devices that are not commercially available.”
