Donna Britten was awarded a University Medal when she graduated at the University of Western Sydney's Spring ceremonies on 27 September with a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours).

After years of raising a family and doing part time work along the way, Donna decided to return to study to pursue a career change.

Donna originally wanted to do a degree in social work but ended up deciding on social science instead.

"At first, as a mature aged student, I wasn't sure if I could cope with the demands of university study, however I found I loved the content and was able to engage with it really well."

During her Bachelor degree, Donna majored in sociology with a sub-major in social psychology.

For her Honours thesis, Donna studied the opportunities and obstacles facing young lesbians in the 21st Century.

Donna is now working as a Case Manager at the Women's Activities and Self Help House, also known as the W.A.S.H House in Mt Druitt. As part of the State's ‘Staying Home Leaving Violence’ initiative, she works to improve the quality of life of women in the community by helping them leave situations of domestic violence.
