Sue Coleman, Group Manager, City Services, Parramatta City Council

Sue Coleman

Sue Coleman, a resident of Parramatta, has been nominated for the 2013 Women of the West Award for her leadership and commitment to the communities of Greater Western Sydney.

Sue came to Parramatta City Council with over 20 years of experience working in the area of community services and has been a member of the Executive Management Team since late 2007. In this time, Sue’s work and dedication has led to some outstanding achievements.

In March 2009 she commissioned a Best Value Review of Council’s City Operations Unit – which encompassed cleaning, property maintenance, roads and building services – which led to significant cost savings for the ratepayers of Parramatta and substantial improvements in local services.

Sue also led the development of a new delivery model for Parramatta Library Services, which resulted in significant improvements to customer service as well as a greater emphasis on new technologies. Under Sue’s management, the first loaning program for e-readers in any NSW library has commenced in Parramatta libraries in 2013.

Sue’s work at Council has a direct impact on the standard and efficiency of services that are available to Parramatta residents – including libraries, heritage and tourism services, child care centres, services to seniors, and sport and recreation programs.

Sue also takes on a number of roles outside of Council, which  help to support the activities of the local community. She has served as a WESTIR Ltd Board member over the past two years, and is Council’s representative on the Advisory Board of the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic.

Ricci Bartels, Coordinator of the Fairfield Migrant Resource Centre, supported Sue’s nomination with a reflection on her previous position at Fairfield City Council. Ricci credits Sue with developing a range of programs that assisted Fairfield’s migrant and refugee communities, which set a benchmark for positive local government contribution to community development.
