With an esteemed professional and academic career spanning political science, history, public policy, and law, Mr Juriansz has a strong commitment to social justice, equality and education.
He has held several senior roles at the University, including most recently as Interim Director of the Whitlam Institute and Deputy Dean of the School of Law.
An awarded educator, he has lectured in technology, innovation and the law, and is admitted as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and of the High Court of Australia.
The Whitlam Institute within Western Sydney University is a leading national centre for dialogue and debate on public policy. It is an independent think-tank for the people, working to ignite debate, strengthen discussion and enrich policy development in Australia.
Mr Juriansz said it is an incredible honour and privilege to take up the Directorship as the Institute prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Whitlam Government’s election.
“The Whitlam Institute serves as the custodian of critical elements of Australia’s social and political heritage, and I’m delighted to work with the Institute’s Board, research fellows and dedicated staff, to continue to find solutions to the contemporary challenges confronting our country and its people, through the legacy of Gough and Margaret Whitlam,” said Mr Juriansz.
Chair of the Whitlam Institute Board, the Hon John Faulkner, welcomed the appointment of Mr Juriansz in this milestone year for the Institute.
“John has a great understanding of the values that Gough Whitlam championed throughout his public life and the imperative for equity and fairness in future public policy formulation and civic exchange,” Mr Faulkner said.
“I’m delighted that as our new Director, John will continue his support and enthusiasm for these values. Importantly, John will oversee a vibrant program of events and activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the election of the Whitlam Government and celebrate what this means for Australia today. On behalf of the Whitlam Institute Board, I congratulate John on his appointment and wish him well.”
