Robina Singla was working as an accountant when she decided it was time for a change. Having always had an interest in healthcare she came across Western Sydney University’s Bachelor of Nursing (Honours).

Robina had previously found university overwhelming, as the first in her family to pursue higher education, but having heard so many positive stories about the learning environment at Western she decided to take the leap and commit to switching careers.

“I chose Western Sydney University as it offered me the flexibility I needed to study, work, and balance family life, without compromising on the learning,” said Robina.

“I had always heard a lot about the amazing learning environment at Western, which is why I enrolled and have enjoyed every part of my study.

“I would recommend Western for those wishing to learn from some of the best educators while enjoying some of the most wonderful facilities and opportunities provided to students.”

The undergraduate coursework has already helped Robina secure work in the field as a Registered Nurse in general practice, as she continues to complete her degree.

“I feel very fortunate with my study and experiences at Western. I have been presented with many opportunities and have achieved so many things on my bucket list, both academically, professionally, and personally.”

“Nursing provides such a vast range of career options, including progression to academia.”

Reflecting on her time at Western, Robina has enjoyed the experience of returning to study with her sights now also set on completing a PhD.

“I have met some of the best educators, made some of the most wonderful friends, and I am learning so much about my chosen field of study.”

“The Honours program specifically is helping me learn and prepare for future work as a researcher and potential work in academia. It has been a steep learning curve but I have learned so much about research in nursing, including its benefits to nurses, other health professionals, patients, and the wider community.”

The skills taught in the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree are translating directly to Robina’s everyday practices as a nurse and helping her to excel in her new career.

“It has helped me become a better nurse as I have learned how to effectively, and efficiently, search for evidence-based practice that has helped in my day-to-day practice as a nurse.”

“I have gained so much confidence as a well-informed nurse by way of this program, and this also reflects in my practice.”
