Aspiring teacher pursues dream through hands-on learning
Pelin Ozen, an aspiring teacher from Canterbury-Bankstown, is driven by a strong passion for learning and growth.
Her own educational journey was a dynamic one, filled with a multitude of learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth.
“Throughout my schooling journey, I was always keen towards acquiring new knowledge and exploring learning opportunities beyond the classroom.”
“With the support of my teachers, who also embraced the role of inspiring mentors, I was able to confidently progress in my primary and high school studies.”
She said being a teacher will give her the opportunity to foster a positive classroom environment in which students are supported according to their personal learning needs.
“I am enthusiastic about creating a positive classroom atmosphere where students receive personalised support for their learning needs. My goal is to guide children towards reaching their potential and cultivate a genuine love for learning.”
Pelin chose to study the Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Western Sydney University due to the ongoing placement opportunities it offers throughout the four-year degree.
“I believe that stepping into different classrooms, working with a diverse range of students, and learning from various qualified educators in the field is an essential part of becoming a teacher. Hence why, I greatly value the yearly placement opportunities the Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree at Western Sydney University offers to its students.”
Pelin studies at the University’s new Bankstown City campus, a state-of-the-art high-rise campus located in the CBD. Highlights of her university experience included meaningful connections developed during placements, where she gained hands-on experience and learned effective pedagogical strategies.
“Being in the field and actively working with children has not only given me the opportunity to gain hands-on learning experience, but it has also allowed me to work with highly supportive mentors that enriched my awareness and understanding of classroom dynamics, student engagement and ways to develop and implement effective strategies.”
Participating in extracurricular activities and serving as a student representative in the School of Education Academic Committee, she built a strong network and cherished the friendships made along the way.
Utilising LANTITE preparation services, she enhanced her confidence and knowledge in mathematical and literacy concepts, successfully meeting the standard for the examination. Offering advice to new students, especially in education, Pelin emphasised staying organised, seeking guidance and support, and actively participating in extracurricular activities.
With a primary goal of becoming a full-time teacher and eventually exploring leadership roles such as headteacher and coordinator, Pelin is poised to bring her passion for education into her own future classroom.
