Western Sydney University secures unlimited Premium Digital access to The Sydney Morning Herald for staff and students

Western Sydney University is partnering with The Sydney Morning Herald, to provide all current students and staff with complimentary access to a Premium Digital subscription.

The 12-month, campus-wide agreement with The Sydney Morning Herald, published by Nine Entertainment, will provide unlimited access for about 50,000 students and 2,500 current staff.

The partnership will be officially launched during the University’s Welcome Week, 23–27 February, coinciding with the return of students to campus for the new semester. As the University community comes together to begin the academic year, The Sydney Morning Herald will host on-campus activations, giving students and staff the opportunity to learn more about the subscription and explore the breadth of content available.

The subscription provides comprehensive coverage across local, national and international news, including politics, business, culture, lifestyle and sport. Students and staff can also personalise their subscription to access Today’s Paper (digital edition), newsletters, expert commentary, daily puzzles and the Good Food Guide.

Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor George Williams AO said access to quality journalism plays an important role in connecting the University community to local, national and global conversations.

“I’m pleased Western is partnering with The Sydney Morning Herald to give our staff and students unlimited access to the masthead’s Premium Digital subscription, as well as a range of other benefits,” said Professor Williams.

“It is important our people have access to trusted, high-quality journalism, and international news coverage as it supports classroom discussions and broader academic engagement with contemporary issues.”

The partnership will also deliver on-campus initiatives and editorial engagement opportunities designed to enhance learning and professional development through 2026.

It reflects a shared commitment to Western Sydney, with The Sydney Morning Herald maintaining a dedicated news bureau in the Parramatta CBD.

Staff and students can activate their subscription by visiting the Campus Access webpage and following the prompts.
