Western Sydney University recognised globally across 24 subjects in QS rankings

Western Sydney University has been recognised among the world’s top universities for the study of 24 subjects in the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The 2026 Subject Rankings, released today, assess academic reputation, employer reputation and research excellence. The rankings assessed more than 18,300 university programs across over 1,700 universities in 100 locations, spanning 55 academic disciplines.

Western Sydney University is ranked in 24 subjects, with nine placing in the global top 200:

Western Sydney University also recorded significant upward movement across several subjects. Linguistics and Law each rose by 99 places, while Anatomy and Physiology climbed 135 places to rank among the top 10 in Australia. Computer Science and Information Systems improved by 40 places (20th in Australia), and Psychology rose 36 places to 17th nationally.

The result builds on the University’s strong global standing, including being ranked number one in the world for social, economic and environmental impact in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for an unprecedented four consecutive years in a row (2022–2025).

Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise, Professor Ian Anderson, said the results reflect the strength of the University’s teaching and research, and its focus on student success.
