Charge Towards Change: Western Sydney University prepares students for a changing region and world
Western Sydney's anchor institution launches its first new brand campaign in over a decade
Western Sydney University has today unveiled its first new brand in more than a decade, positioning its students for one of the most significant periods of economic and social transformation in the region’s history.
The new brand, Charge Towards Change, reflects the University’s commitment to preparing students for the profound changes reshaping both Western Sydney and the world.
The campaign speaks to a generation of young people entering a world being reshaped by artificial intelligence, rapid technological advancement, climate change, and geopolitical uncertainty. It sets out a bold vision for the role the University must play in supporting students to succeed in a world that won’t sit still.
Western Sydney University Chancellor, Professor Jennifer Westacott AC, said that the University’s ambition for students is connected to the transformation taking place across the region.
“As Western Sydney’s anchor institution – and a university that is part of, and reflects, our great region – no university is more invested in its people or better placed to help Western Sydney realise its extraordinary potential,” said Professor Westacott.
“In a rapidly changing world and a region in the midst of transformation, we want to equip our students and staff with the tools to not just respond to change, but to charge towards it and take advantage of the opportunities this extraordinary time presents.”
Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor and President, Distinguished Professor George Williams AO, said universities have a critical role to play in preparing students to thrive, even during uncertain times.
“Many of tomorrow’s graduates will work in jobs that don’t yet exist,” said Professor Williams.
“Western Sydney University is equipping students with the critical thinking skills, adaptability and resilience they’ll need to take control of their future.
“A student starting with us next year will graduate in 2030, which will be a very different world to the one we live in. Our responsibility is to prepare them not simply to adapt to change, but to thrive in it – with the skills, values, aspirations, workplace experience and confidence to succeed.”
As a young university, we're committed to challenging the traditional university model for the benefit of our students. Our ambition is for every student to graduate with more than a degree, equipped with the skills, adaptability and experience needed to thrive in a changing workforce. This includes ensuring every student has access to meaningful industry engagement, real-world problem-solving and opportunities to apply their learning beyond the classroom.
Students are supported through initiatives including a free AI Bootcamp, innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities with the University’s technology startup incubator, Launch Pad, and access to state-of-the-art facilities and industry endorsed, real-world learning. These opportunities are further strengthened by our partnerships with leading organisations across the region, as well as the University’s growing international footprint, giving students access to global experiences and networks.
The launch comes as Western Sydney undergoes a once-in-a-generation transformation, where nation defining projects like the Western Sydney International Airport, Bradfield City Centre, Powerhouse Parramatta and the Sydney Metro are reorientating the State’s economic centre to the west and connecting the region to the rest of the world.
“For too long, the people of Western Sydney have lived with a great unfairness: a region rich in talent and ambition, but without the jobs, infrastructure and investment needed to fulfil its potential. That is now changing,” said Professor Westacott.
“Our region is younger and more entrepreneurial than the rest of Sydney, and with the opening of the Western Sydney International Airport, the growth of Bradfield City Centre and major infrastructure initiatives nearing completion, Western Sydney is about to take off. This is the type of change I have spent my career advocating for, and one our University, and our students, are poised to seize.”
