Western Sydney University celebrates alumni and staff recognised in King’s Birthday Honours
Western Sydney University is proud to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding achievements of several alumni, former staff and community members who have been recognised in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours.
Members of our community have been recognised for their extraordinary contributions across a range of fields, including science education, public safety, community service, literature, contemporary dance, and public education.
This year’s awardees include:
- Mrs Jo-ann Morris OAM
Medal of the Order of Australia
Alumna, School of Nursing and Midwifery
Recognised for her service to the community through charitable organisations. Jo-ann is also a recipient of the Women of the West Award (2018). - Dr Deidre Tronson OAM
Medal of the Order of Australia
Alumna, the then School of Science and Health
Honoured for her service to science education. Dr Tronson served as a lecturer/senior lecturer and honorary adjunct fellow at Western Sydney University between 1988 and 2008, contributing significantly to science outreach and education programs. - Mr Philip Hurst AFSM
Australian Fire Service Medal
Alumnus, the then School of Science and Health
Commended for a lifetime of dedication to the NSW Rural Fire Service and the Kurrajong Heights Brigade, including during the 2019–20 Black Summer bushfires. - Mr Mark Porter AFSM
Australian Fire Service Medal
Alumnus, the then School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics
Recognised for over 41 years of service to Fire and Rescue NSW and major contributions to national fire safety standards and firefighter training infrastructure. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Fire Safety Engineering from Western. - Mr Michael Morris OAM
Medal of the Order of Australia
Alumnus, the then School of Social Sciences and Psychology
Honoured for his service to the community through charitable organisations. - Major Dianne Hutchinson OAM
Medal of the Order of Australia
Alumna, School of Nursing and Midwifery
Awarded for her meritorious performance as a Nursing Officer and mentor to the Australian Defence Force Arts for Recovery program. - Dr Elizabeth Dalman AM
Member of the Order of Australia
Alumna, School of Humanities and Communication Arts
Recognised for her significant contribution to contemporary dance as a director, performer and teacher. - Ms Louise Barnott-Clement PSM
Public Service Medal
Alumna, School of Education and School of Humanities and Communication Arts
Acknowledged for her outstanding public service to education in New South Wales. - Mrs Janice Eccleston PSM
Public Service Medal
Alumna, School of Education
Celebrated for her exceptional service to public education in NSW. - Emeritus Professor Ivor Indyk OAM
Medal of the Order of Australia
Former Whitlam Chair and Director, Writing and Society Research Centre (2005–2023)
Honoured for his contributions to Australian literature. Emeritus Professor Indyk has served at Western Sydney University since 2023 in an emeritus capacity.
