Western students named as 2025 Westpac Scholars
Ten outstanding Western Sydney University students were awarded scholarships from the Westpac Scholars Trust to help shape the future through technology and deepen Australia’s ties with Asia.
This year, Western’s cohort of Westpac Scholars includes eight students who received the Westpac Young Technologist Scholarships to explore technology’s potential for good and a better future:
- Haniya Syed
- Cassandra Francesca Pacheco
- Jack Lewis
- Shreeya Gupta
- Addison Beazley
- Bailey Swift
- Alyssa Clough
- Isabella Robson
Additionally, two Western students have received Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarships and will participate in immersive experiences in Asia’s top innovation hubs:
- Analise Dawson
- Kobe Zagorac
Among the talented young tech innovators selected for a Westpac Young Technologist Scholarship, Western student Cassandra Francesca Pacheco has designed a smart bedroom mirror to boost teenage confidence.
The Bachelor of Design and Technology student says she has blended interactive design, coding, and emerging tech to leave a lasting impact on Australia’s future.
"During my Year 11 Design and Technology class, I developed a self-esteem mirror that delivers positive messages to users through an interactive display. By integrating touchscreens, Raspberry Pi technology, and user-centric programming, I aimed to create a product that supports mental well-being,” said Cassandra.
Meanwhile, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) student and Asian Exchange Scholar, Kobe Zagorac, will gain firsthand experience in Asia’s top innovation hubs, building cross-cultural intelligence and expanding global networks.
“The scholarship has opened the door for me to study overseas and build cross-cultural skills, while motivating me to broaden my knowledge and ambitions. Personally, it has boosted my confidence and allowed me to connect with people and communities I never imagined meeting, expanding my horizons and preparing me for future Australia-Asia engagement,” said Kobe.
Beyond financial support, these scholarships provide access to a bespoke leadership program, including an immersive experience in Singapore, equipping scholars with the skills and connections to accelerate their impact.
Western Sydney University is one of a select number of universities across Australia that partners with Westpac Scholars Trust to award scholarships to outstanding students.
This year, 100 scholarships were awarded to exceptional undergraduate students, researchers and social entrepreneurs who shared in over $5 million collectively.
