Free HSC Study Sessions program celebrates 15 years of student success

Western Sydney University is once again offering free online HSC Study Sessions supporting Year 12 students across New South Wales to prepare for their upcoming HSC exams.

Now in its 15th year of helping thousands of Year 12 students succeed, Western’s HSC Study Sessions will run from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October 2025, delivering 24 sessions across 15 major HSC subject areas.

Experienced HSC teachers will deliver the sessions, offering high-quality subject reviews and exam deconstructions, allowing students an insight into what to expect in the exams.

This year, students can also join a Q&A Session and a ‘UNI101: Introduction to University’ session delivered by Western’s Future Student Engagement team to find out about university life at Western, dream careers and degrees, alternative pathways, scholarship opportunities, support services, and more.

Director, Future Student Engagement at Western Sydney University, Sophie Partridge said the HSC Study Sessions program helps Year 12 students achieve their best possible results by enabling them to go into their exams prepared and with confidence.

“For the past 15 years, this program has helped open doors and create opportunities for the young people of Western Sydney. It reflects our strong commitment to supporting their educational success,” Ms Partridge said.

“We’re investing in the future of Western Sydney by supporting our Year 12 students at such a pivotal time. Serving our community and ensuring that every student has access to opportunity through education is at the heart of our mission.”

Fatmah Al Shamri is a St Marys Senior High School graduate and took part in Western’s HSC Study Sessions in 2024 to help prepare for her final Year 12 exams. Now, she is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Creative Leadership double degree at Western.

Taking part in the English Advanced, Legal Studies, and Modern History HSC Study Sessions, Fatmah says that the program helped her feel more prepared and confident for her exams.

“Logging into the HSC Study Sessions last year gave me exactly what I needed to feel reassured and what I needed to understand in preparation for my exams, and the sessions really helped to keep me calm during exam season,” Fatmah said.

“The sessions were engaging and comprehensive without being overwhelming and that’s the kind of experience I was looking for in those anxiety-riddled school holidays. I wanted to make the most of the opportunity to learn a few things, pick up a few essay drafting tips and get motivated for my exams.”

“These sessions can’t be matched with studying on your own. Recordings of the sessions are made available a few days after they’ve been had, and on-demand learning really was an innovative tool for learning that you just can’t get from studying on your own.”

Western’s HSC Study Sessions are free and cover 15 key HSC subject areas including:

Students who prefer a quiet environment for individual or group study, along with reliable internet access, can attend the live-streamed sessions at Western Sydney University’s Fairfield Connect study hub.
