Western Sydney University students awarded Commonwealth Teaching Scholarships, boosting local teaching workforce

Nine outstanding students from Western Sydney University have been awarded a Commonwealth Teaching Scholarship (CTS), an initiative helping to increase the teaching workforce in Western Sydney and addressing the growing demand for qualified educators in the region.

Awarded in Round 1 as part of the Australian Government’s $160 million CTS Program, these scholarships valued at up to $40,000 provide essential financial assistance for new undergraduate and postgraduate students pursing teaching degrees.

Upon completion of their degrees, scholarship recipients will teach in government schools or government-run early learning settings, ensuring that Western Sydney’s students have access to passionate and well-prepared educators.

Professor Michele Simons, Dean of the School of Education at Western Sydney University, offered her congratulations to the recipients and highlighted the importance of the CTS initiative for the future of education in the region.

“Western Sydney University is proud to see its students recognised through this vital program. These scholarships empower our students to complete their studies and become the next generation of skilled teachers and educators,” said Professor Simons.

“With the region experiencing rapid growth, this initiative is crucial in creating a pipeline of highly qualified teachers who will serve and uplift our schools and early learning centres.”
