Western Sydney University joins global initiative to promote carbon neutrality
Western Sydney University is proud to announce its participation in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s (HKUST ) Joint Declaration on Embracing a Living Lab Approach to Promote Carbon Neutrality.
This global initiative focuses on accelerating the transition to carbon neutrality through innovative, collaborative solutions and is backed by a network of leading universities and research institutions. The declaration aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13, which calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
By joining this initiative, Western Sydney University is committed to creating an environment that encourages hands-on research and learning by students and staff to advance innovative ideas that contribute to carbon neutrality, while fostering partnerships to promote campus-based testing and learning.
In addition to signing the declaration, the University has joined the HKUST Living Lab alliance – a platform designed to foster sustainable urban living and tackle global environmental challenges.
Western’s Living Labs (opens in a new window) focus on themes of climate action, nature-based solutions and circular economy opportunities, and build upon collaborations with the Schools of Science, Engineering, Design and Built Environment, Humanities and Communication Arts, and Technical Services.
Western Sydney University has been named number one in the world for its social, economic and environmental impact in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings for the third year in a row.
The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings is the main global ranking system that comprehensively assesses universities on their commitment to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Rankings are based on universities’ teaching, research, outreach and stewardship.
