Marking a decade of generosity and community spirit, the Western Sydney University community has embraced the annual Chancellor’s Toy Appeal by donating over 350 toys for local children and their families in need this Christmas.
This year, the 2024 Chancellor’s Christmas Toy Appeal marks 10 years of providing Christmas joy and hope as staff, students and the wider community generously donated over 3500 toys since it began into toy appeal boxes placed around all Western campuses, libraries, and early learning centres.
Chancellor, Professor Jennifer Westacott AO would like to thank the Western Sydney University community for their generous donations and continued support of the Chancellor's Christmas Toy Appeal.
“With the current cost of living pressures, many families don't have the Christmas they hope for, so by donating some toys, we can help make a difference in our community,” said Professor Westacott.
The Chancellor’s Christmas Toy Appeal has become an annual tradition of the University over the last 10 years, with staff, students and the wider community all coming together to donate gifts to four local charities that support vulnerable families across Western Sydney.
These charities include Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections, Nepean Community and Neighbourhood Services, Parramatta Mission, and Narang Bir-rong Aboriginal Corporation.
Liverpool Neighbourhood Connections works with diverse communities to help at a grassroots level to provide both direct relief from poverty and the tools to create bright futures. The group works with over 22,000 people annually through their programs.
Nepean Community and Neighbourhood Services provide aid and assistance to residents of the Nepean area along with the Blue Mountains and Lithgow areas. They work together through a model of partnership and collaboration, providing quality programs to support disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the local community to enable strength.
Parramatta Mission works with the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community in our communities to assist them in transforming their lives. They work to provide meals and shelter to help provide them a safe place and support.
Narang Bir-rong Aboriginal Corporation provides culturally and spiritually stable homes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and their families. Their programs help support children and young people meet their social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Western Sydney University proudly supports these charity groups and their ongoing work within our local communities.
On behalf of the University, Chancellor, Professor Jennifer Westacott AO wishes everyone a safe and happy Christmas.
